Kiln Drying
The general rule of thumb is timber takes an inch per year to air dry.
​​
This means the timber dries to match the relative humidity in your area. In Townsville, our relative humidity is 12%.
​
With a Kiln, we can season timber to 8% (preferred for your airconditioned home to limit movement) in as little as 4 weeks, depending on size and species.
​
We also sterilise all kiln dried timber, heating the timber to 56ºC for 8 hours to kill all termites and borers.
Levelling & Sanding
Our Wood Wizz is capable of levelling and sanding timber up to 2.2m wide, 7m long and 250mm thick. Levelling & Sanding is available at $100p/h and it generally takes about 1 hour to level & sand 1 square metre to 80 grit, depending on species.

We can also level & sand epoxy river tables on request. Prices vary.
Sterilising
We also offer a standalone sterilising option.
​
Sterilising with heat or chemicals is the best way to protect your home from the timber borers or termites that might be nesting in your timber.
​
Here at Black River Timber, we offer heat sterilisation for your piece of mind.
​
This is a 48hr process of heating the timber to a temperature that makes it untenantable for bugs.
​
The timber must be air or kiln dried first.
